Great hopes have been placed in IT and Digital Technologies to support our transition towards a low-carbon economy, but the digital sector itself emits as many greenhouse gases as the world's entire road freight. Let's make sure we clean our own house while helping to make the world a better place!
“This was my second year at Green IO and I was so honoured to be on stage for a second year as well and the growth, and bigger stage! gave me goosebumps. I walked away inspired and having learnt things that we’ll be applying to our own digital sustainability projects. But mainly the sense of community that I felt at the conference was incredible and uplifting and it has inspired me to reignite getting more involved in the wider digital sustainability community as well.”
Andri Johnston, Digital Sustainability Lead (Cambridge University Press and Assessment)“It was a pleasure to participate in the Green IO 2023 forum! In the very technophile setting of the API Days, a great day of acculturation on the climate issues of digital activity. Top-notch speakers to raise awareness, engage the dynamics of eco-responsibility and illustrate concrete initiatives from players in digital, travel or industry. Positive challenge!”
Cyril Casenave, Head Of API & Digital Assets (Club Med)“It was a blast! Thanks again Gaël & team for gathering such a positive & optimistic bunch of responsible technologists 💚”
James Martin, Founder (BetterTech)The Green IO Conference is more essential than ever, especially with the rise of AI, whose environmental impact must also be measured and optimized within our organizations. But that is not all—the timing is critical. When sustainability comes rushing back to the forefront, faster than you might expect the teams that have already embedded it will be ready. And you will know that you persevered and made the right choices. While visiting the remarkable, small, and recently opened Fernand Léger Museum in Argentan, I came across one of his quotes that struck me. Léger, a master of contrast and modernity, inspired me to adapt his words by replacing “painter” with “IT professional.” It becomes: “As an IT professional, I believe in the significant role of my peers in the evolution of society.” Every IT professional carries responsibility for shaping society and for the environmental footprint of the digital sector. On one hand, we must understand, control, and reduce the environmental impact of digital transformation in organizations. On the other, we must also assess and measure its benefits.
